We continually strive to not only have BIG ideas, but to make those ideas happen!

Ghùch Tlâ Community School is located in the community of Carcross, which is situated in the Southern Lakes region of Yukon, about a 45-minute drive from Whitehorse. Our school population tends to fluctuate slightly; right now we have 65 students in full time attendance. The majority of our students (92%) are Carcross/Tagish First Nation and come from the community of Carcross and the surrounding area. Our teaching staff consists of seven teachers (including Tlingit Native Language teacher), three Paraprofessionals/Educational Assistants, one CDC worker, C/TFN ESW and Elder in the School, three regular Teachers on Call and a part time librarian.

We acknowledge that we work, plan, and learn on the Traditional Territory of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. We extend a great, big gunalchéesh to the generations of CTFN citizens who have ensured, preserved and vitalized the land and its teachings in this beautiful region.

A word from our Principal

Welcome to another new school year.

Welcome back to another school year. I am so excited to see the kiddos back with us daily, they brighten our worlds so much. I would like to welcome two new teachers to our staff, Dustin Davis will be taking over the Grade 5/6 class, and Shannon Washburn-Fulop will be taking over the kindergarten class. Not to worry, Sam Traynor is still here at GTC, just in a different capacity. Robyn Smarch has moved on to a different opportunity. We wish her well and thank her for the years she worked with us and the kiddos.

We will be starting off strong with upcoming cultural activities in September, more information to come about that. We are also starting off in a bit of a deficit, not having secured Jordin’s Principle funding for our food program and kitchen staff. We will still provide breakfast and lunch, and are thankful to C/TFN Capacity department for funding right now our food, hopefully we can also secure funding for a kitchen cook. Until that time, we will do our best as a staff to meet this need.

Let’s get started!

Ms. Cynthia Wagner
